    Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief of Ophthalmology to provide leadership and oversight for the Division of Ophthalmology within the Department of Surgery. This is a 1.0 FTE clinical position offering the opportunity to practice in a vibrant, mission-driven organization with academic affiliations.

    CHA Eye Centers

    The CHA Eye Centers in Somerville and Malden provide comprehensive ophthalmic care with some of the most experienced eye surgeons in the Boston area. We offer both routine eye care and expert treatment for nearly every eye condition, including glaucoma, diabetic eye diseases, and macular degeneration. Our specialized services include Laser Vision Correction, Laser-assisted Cataract Surgery, and retina care.

    Role Summary

    The Chief of Ophthalmology is responsible for the overall operations, quality of care, and strategic development of the Division. The Physician will work collaboratively with the Chief of Surgery to integrate the three CHA campuses and maintain similar standards of care across sites, ensuring the continued excellence and growth of the Eye Centers.

    Clinical Duties

    • Providing comprehensive clinical ophthalmology services, including outpatient evaluation, management & treatment, surgical services, and consultations.
    • Participating in the ophthalmology on-call coverage schedule for nights, weekends, and holidays.
    • Providing 10 sessions per week split between ambulatory and surgical/procedure sessions, and inpatient & emergent consultations.

    Administrative Duties

    • Assuring efficient, day-to-day operations of the Division.
    • Creating and administering the on-call schedule.
    • Reviewing credentialing packets and acting as a mentor to new ophthalmologists.
    • Conducting Quality Assurance (QA) studies, Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation and Focused Professional Practice Evaluation, as well as participation in departmental Mortality and Mortality conference and periodic performance reviews in conjunction with the Department Chief.
    • Chairing Division meetings and participating in the hiring and termination of physicians.

    Academic Duties

    • Participating in teaching opportunities, including curriculum development, lectures, conferences, and supervision of clinical training for both undergraduate and graduate medical education (in affiliation with Harvard Medical School).
    • The position carries a Harvard Medical School (HMS) appointment of Instructor, Assistant or Associate Professor, commensurate HMS appointment criteria, candidate qualifications, and commitment to teaching responsibilities.
    • Serving as an advisor and preceptor.

    Qualifications

    • Board Certification in Ophthalmology.
    • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience.
    • License to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
    • Relevant practice experience, flexibility, good communication, and organizational skills.

    CHA offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental insurance, 403b retirement accounts with employer match, generous Paid Time Off (PTO), and a CME allotment (both time and dollars). The full time guaranteed base salary range of $420,000-$450,000 is based on years of experience. Total compensation includes base salary plus production incentive and Chief stipend.
